Split seems to have stopped working entirely RRS feed

  • Question

  • Doing a Split (as Moderator - for those who aren't Moderators this is done to get a new question in an existing thread into its own thread) always used to be a major time-waster for Moderators.

First we had to work out a Title for the new Thread based on the question in the split post.

Then we had to wait quite a while for the Split to work.

Then we had to wait quite a while a second time for the Split to work as it rarely seemed to work the first time.

All that was bad enough, but today I had twice (i.e. at two different times with two different threads) three failed attempts (each) before I gave up.

If Split doesn't work all that's left for us is to delete the errant post. Is that what you really want?

  • This is a known problem. We have a high pri bug on this. I don't have an ETA yet for a fix though. Thanks for reporting it.

  • Thanks Brent.

While you are at it please change the UI so that if no forum is selected for where to go to, it will go to the same forum it came from.

This is the case for almost all Splits I have done (and it's so logical that a Split should go to the same forum that I often don't specify it which adds yet another cycle).

  • I got an alert so I know that Ed was recently active in this thread.

Could he please have a look at the feasibility of doing the UI change I requested. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is splitting a thread into the same forum the original single thread was in.

I appreciate that the original question in the thread was answered (although a final answer would have been to say that the problem is now fixed!) and that thus his mark as answer was also justified.

  • I agree with your interface suggestion. I rarely do Split, but when I do, it will be nice to have the original forum to be pre-selected.
