Why do we need a connecter CD anyway? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Why now just use a Shared location that is accessible from the same subnet.  Have the associated install files there instead of using a CD.  Lets leverage the existing network.  You know Like RIS :-)

  • The connector software is available in \\server\Software\Home Server Connector Software\
So the CD is not necessary.

The CD Probably has an AutoRun feature to auto install the connector software which makes it easier for Joe User where Jim Techie can find the share just fine.

  • it would be ideal to even have that part also automated. The server installs itself, finds all the computers on the network and then pushes a copy of the connector to the desktop or somewhere and installs itself. Most non-tech people would prefer that ease of installation.  Failing an autoinstall, at least if the connector install were on the desktop it would be easier than using the CD.
