My Home Server is not found by my home network

Question
-
I suddenly cannot connect to my WHS at all. The WHS tray icon is gray. If I attempt to troubleshoot the connector, I get loads of errors. My network is not even recognizing it anymore.
I tried ipconfig /all to see a list of IP information for all computers on my network but the only one that shows up is my main PC. The WHS is not even listed. I've tried \\servername\
\\servername\software
I've tried connecting via web access. nothing. I'm at a loss.
I don't know how to check to see if some port is blocked. I'm not sure if my router is configured correctly, I can't find any information on how to configure a router correctly in order to use WHS.
I've been successfully using WHS for over a year and a half now and have never had troubles.
I've the cords are all going to the right places. I'm at a loss. I have no way to connect to my WHS, which is a HP media smart HS with no "head" on it.
If you have any ideas. I would be extremely grateful if you shared them with me.
Thanks in advance!

Do you have multiple clients? If so, is it the same from all of them? Can you successfully ping your server, by name and by IP address from that client? Do you have any security-suite type software installed on your client that might be blocking communications?

I have just one client computer and then the WHS at home. When I type "Ping thomps-server" into my CMD prompt, I get the response "Ping request cound not find host thomps-server. Please check the name and try again.
You might be able to find out the IP address of your server by logging into your router and looking at the DHCP table (or something similar).
I don't know the IP address of my server.
Thomps-server is the name of my WHS.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials installed.
Are there any red lights on your front of your server? Are there any lights on the network plug on the back of the server? You might try contacting HP for support as well.- Marked as answer by Jonas Svensson -FST- Tuesday, February 9, 2010 1:17 AM

I suppose you could use an IP scanner to find the IP of your whs.
I've used http://www.radmin.com/products/utilities/ipscanner.php before and it should do the job. (Freeware)Wednesday, January 20, 2010 12:06 PM -
I'll try finding the IP address via my router tonight when I get home from work. Thanks for the tip.
As for the lights. Of the small little icons on the front of the WHS in the lower right corner, one lights up red every now and then but then it will be blue and lavender other times. Not sure what this means.
The network plug lights up as if there is network activity.Wednesday, January 20, 2010 2:53 PM -

Probably it indicates a problem with your server. You don't say what kind of server you have, but I assume it's an OEM server. You should consult the manuals you received with it to see what the lights actually mean; they'll be documented there.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)Wednesday, January 20, 2010 2:57 PMModerator -
You could try to power off your server, wait a few seconds, power it on again and see, if this solves the problem.
Also verify, that the network cables are properly plugged on on both ends (server and switch/router) and the cable is not damaged.
Best greetings from Germany
