Cannot turn windows features on and update problems

Hello, i cannot turn any of my windows features on and i think because of this updates are constantly failing due to the .net framework being disabled!!!!
Here is a list of features i cannot turn on:
Indexing Service, Internet explorer 8 (even though im using it now?),internet information services,internet information services hostable web core, microsoft .net framework 3.5.1, microsoft message queue server, remote differential compression, RIP listener, simple network management protocol, simple TCPIP services, tablet pc components, telnet client, telnet server,TFTP clien, windows gadget platform, windows process activation service, windows search, winows TIFF Ifilter, XPS services and viewer.
Also these updates have failed time and time again:
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 Update for windows 7 x86, security update for windows 7 (KB977165), Update for windows 7 (KB971033), Security update for microsoft visual C++ 2008 service pack 1 Redist (this one is causing lots of gaming problems for me.
ok to help also i am currently running windows 7 but my computer which i will describe the specs below was bought with windows vista home basic but i changed it to windows xp home edition, then a friend bought a 3 pack of windows 7 home premium and i installed it and ever since i have had problems somehow related to vista??
my specs are this:
Dual core intel T1600 1.66 GHz
Ram: 2 GB
32 bit OS
Mobile intel 4 series express chipset family (i know its not very good but it works decently most of the time)
Intel WiFi link 5100 AGN
My computer is a Lenovo r500 thinkpad
Someone PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME with this its really annoying and it seems to affect alot of system functions and this is annoying cause my computer is almost brand new
