Restoring music files RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I recently had a major laptop meltdown.  Luckily I had backed up my files recently with one care.  My problem now is I bought a new laptop with vista (previously had XP). I restored all my photo, document and music files with no problem, except that I cannot play some of my online purchased tracks.  When I try to play them it attmepts to acquire the licenses online, unfortunatley these files were either bought from musicmatch or urge (both now defunct) and the new owners (yahoo and Rhapsody) will not help.

My question now are there files in the backup I can restore to reactivate the media usage rights?

AFAIK this is not possible. As the licence is not backed up now it is not possible to restore !

You may want to contact support team and try to get help from them.

  • Sadly, this is the bane of DRM. The rights are tied to the hardware that the files are downloaded to and the license information is generally not transferable.
