Hiya,
When right clicking a share on WHS from a Windows client, the Make available offline menu option is not available.
I'm using Windows 7 RC.
Any ideas?Tuesday, August 4, 2009 2:19 PM

Hmm, according to this http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/whssoftware/thread/b248bfe8-5294-42ff-912c-c9ea2ca3c991 the Office issue was fixed in PP1.
Still doesn't explain why I don't have the option available on the root of the shares!- Marked as answer by Lanky Doodle Tuesday, March 21, 2017 2:43 PM

Which version of Windows 7? Home, Ultimate, etc.?

Ultimate, now RTM via Technet Plus sub.
If I right click on a sub-folder of a main share (Music, Photos etc) the option is available. But I don't really want to manage over 1000 sub-directories I have distributed inside the main shares!Monday, August 10, 2009 10:25 AM -
Hi,
from past experiences offline files work not well with Windows Home Server.
At least some users of core applications (i.e. MS Office) reported issues, if the server was disconnected. They still could work with the files, if they used the Explorer to copy the files to another location first, but this is not very convenient. So I would recommend not to use this feature.
Best greetings from Germany

Since you've obviously reinstalled the OS, have you reconfigured Windows to use offline files? If you have, how big are the shares that you want to make available offline? I believe there's a limit (by default probably 4 GB) for offline files. I don't know (because I don't use or recommend offline files and so haven't tested), but it seems possible that if Windows 7 detects that a share is too big it might refuse to make the option available. Remember that one of Microsoft's goals with Windows 7 is to make the OS respond more intelligently...

That's because you can't make an entire share available through Offline Files (only folders and files).- Proposed as answer by kariya21Moderator Monday, August 10, 2009 8:04 PM
