Windows 7 Build 7601 Copy is Not Genuine Issue

Question
-
I started having this issue approximately 4 days ago.
The hard drive is currently installed in a HP Pavilion dv6700, the hard drive originally in this laptop is not currently in use. The hard drive producing the error was originally in an eMachines E725. I had an accident with the eMachines laptop in November 2012 and simply installed the hard drive in the HP in order to complete some school projects and access data.
Thank you,
Denise

The current machine was built for , and licensed for, Windows Vista.
It is not licensed for Windows 7.
You will have to reformat and reinstall with a valid copy of Vista if you want to use a genuine version of windows on this machine - or purchase an Upgrade license for Windows 7 Home Premium and use that to do a clean install.

You will need to speak to an activation operator and explain the problem clearly - they may be able to help.
Telephone your local office from this list - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/950929
when asked which service you require by the telephone ansafone, do NOT reply - this should force an operator to respond, who can deal with you.
Good luck!

So even though I own the license for this hard drive I can't use it? The other laptop is trash, but the hard drive is good. I guess it just doesn't make sense to me why it can not be used.Monday, January 7, 2013 9:18 PM

I may have an upgrade license for Windows 7. If so, what do I have to do? I hope not a full install, because that is the whole reason I just used the hard drive. I hate all of this tech stuff and I really just want to plug and go, not fight it out with copying and backing up and settings, etc. Too difficult for me.
I have been a staunch Microsoft PC person for years, but the brand new windows 8 tablet I just got for Christmas may be going back if this is the way things are I'll stick with Android.

OEM Licenses live and die with the motherboard on which they are first installed.
They are not transferable to new machine under any circumstances.
That's one of the reasons that they are so much cheaper than Retail licenses.

Please explain what needs to be done in order to use an available windows 7 upgrade license. I only have one semester of school left and I really don't want to invest any additional money in a new laptop.
I have upgrade disks with license key.
Thank you.
