User Accounts

Question

Having a WHS that have are connected to several computers and on each computer there are several users and these are using all the comuters. To secure that you can manage the users and that the users can have access to the same data on all compueters it would be good to have syncronizising functionality in WHS.
I have looked for this functionality in WHS but have not found it.
I am currenly having 2 Vista and 1 XP MCE and the WHS.
To syncronize user data I am currenly testing SyncToy to syncronize user data from each computer to the WHS user shared folder.

First, you don't want to "synchronize" between computers, I think. You want a "roaming profile" where no matter which computer a user logs in to they get their familiar environment. True "roaming profiles" aren't really supported on WHS, as they are normally managed via Active Directory, but the workarounds give much the same effect, at an increased level of annoyance when you set it up.
If what you're looking to move/centralize are user shell folders, take a look at this web page. I only gave you the special case of My Documents, which has a specific interface for this. (Please note that I have not done this...) If the data isn't in a shell folder that can be moved via one of the methods on that web page, you have a user education issue.
As for the laptop, there's always Offline Files.Sunday, May 20, 2007 2:01 PMModerator

GL, you aren't finding that in WHS because it's already built in to Windows. Here's how you configure a user's account on a client PC to use their share on WHS. (I'll assume the user is named Green, and the WHS is named Server):
- Under the share for Green on WHS (\\Server\Users\Green), create a folder named "My Documents".
- While logged in to the client PC as Green, right click "My Documents".
- Select Properties from the pop-up menu.
- Select the Target tab, if not already selected.
- Click Move...
- Select the folder you just created.
- Click OK, then Apply.
- Let Windows move the files.
If you have a large music library that your users normally store in the My Music folder under My Documents, you might want to either configure it to point to a single network share that all users have read access to, or move the music library elsewhere on each machine. Same with My Pictures and My Videos; there tends to be a lot of content in these folders.Saturday, May 19, 2007 8:23 PMModerator -
Thanks Ken,
however it did not solve my problem. I The functionality in Windows is limited to "My Documents" and I need to syncroniz more data. I would like to syncronize all data that is connected to each account such as Favorites, emails, ...
To my understanding there is now such functionality in Windows or WHS to syncronize this information.
As I have both Vista and XP, it should work on both.
I have also one laptop and I need the data to be aviable when offline.
Do you know how to solve this?
