Yep. I have my home server behind a physical firewall and router. As long as you scan files on your initial drives (desktops, laptops) before you start the backup, you should be fine.
I tried CA-IS earlier in the beta, but had some difficulties getting it to work synchronous with my physical firewall.Thursday, March 15, 2007 3:32 AM

I recommend SAV CE.ver.10 (Symantec) or KAV for servers (Kaspersky), if you have money.
And Free antiviruses for servers:
1. comodo AV + firewall (very hard)
2. ClamWin (Open) - light

I use CA Internet Security on all my machine, but I only install AV and Pest Patrol their spyware program. I don't like CA's firewall. With Windows Firewall and a router is more then enough. With that, I haven't been infected by a virus yet.
If you received CA-IS for free try it out, it didn't cost you anything.Thursday, March 15, 2007 1:59 AM -

It has been my experience with my XP system that using CA's Firewall does work better than the Windows Firewall. If there any hacking attempts, CA Firewall will notify you of the attempt and show that it has been blocked. You'd be surprised how many attempts originate from China, Russia, Europe, and even the USA.
As for the Pest Patrol, I would recommend using additional Anti-Spyware programs, such as AdAware SE or Spybot S & D, because Pest Patrol misses alot of spyware. Although, Anti-Spyware programs probably wouldn't be needed for WHS unless you use it for web surfing.

Same thing happens with Symantec 8 Corp Edition. It does not show in the task bar and when I schedule daily/weekly virus scans, they do not execute. This is the only antivirus I had around that would install on a server OS. I may have to try one of the free ones listed here.Friday, May 4, 2007 2:06 AM

I have tried to install Trend Officescan 7 through TS connection, installation failed. May have something to do with installing from TS. I also had issuses installing other (tape backup, novell netware client, MB drivers) software through TS connection.
Solved these issues by first setting up TS connection, then in the TS session run tsmmc and setup connection to the console. Did not retry Trend Officescan, when I do I will post, however I think Trend Officescan is a bit overdone for WHS. I would prefer to have something simple like Trend Internet Security which is easy to configure and manage.
Server is behind router and ADSL modem, remote access disabled and WS are protected by Trend IS

I'm running symantec corporate - it's all dandy! Haven't tried all the server modules yet, need to get a domain sorted before I venture into that but will update you all when I eventually get around to it!

I did some forum searching here and found that Symantec Corporate 10.2 is what works. So I installed it and it works just fine. It works from Vista down to..... I already had 8.0 but that messed things up a bit on CPT, so I had to uninstall it. I remember reading that Mcaffe works too. Not sure which version though...
I've seen a lot of guys say, "You don't need AV. You don't surf the web on WHS." Yeah, sure. Lets say I have software running on WHS that downloads directly to WHS (i.e. utorrent or anything else for that matter. It's a matter of time before you do and you know it. LOL.). You WILL need AV software. With my whole life on WHS, I would not want some Trojan riding in on a file and take out everything or transmit it out to the whole world. Then I have AV on each PC too. It just makes better sense, ya know? If ya skimp...you will eventually pay
Now, with Symantec Corporate 10.2 you could run it as a service and have it auto update each pc on your network too...... Have not set that up yet myself.
Just my 2 cents...
Update!! After 3 days of installing Corporate 10.2 I noticed a sever slooow down more and more each day. Could not even uninstall Symantec! Had to reinstall WHS on the C drive. Don't know what the problem is.... May have to try one of the other options listed here...Sunday, June 17, 2007 9:34 PM -
