  • Please get rid of the Launchpad! I hate that silly thing. I don't want something that size on my desktop.

  • There should be a way to minimize it to the notification area, but I have not figured out
how yet. If there isn't, then put in a suggestion if you wish and I'll vote it up. In the
meantime I just close it and restart it when needed since it is not used that often
    anyway.

  • To minimize it to the taskbar icon I click on the "x" upper right corner.

If you want you can login into the Launchpad, again in the upper right there is a down arrow which you use to logout or change settings if you want. On those options there is even an option to not have Launchpad run when you log into Windows.

  • I think we're talking about the same thing, Zebra. The only difference is
    that you're using a Mac and we're using PCs. I think. :)

I have what is called a QuickLaunch Bar, which is probably similar to what
you're talking about when you said "in the top bar". I tried to place the
Launchpad on it, but it wouldn't move. What I have done is to open the
folder (on the Start Menu) for the Vail Beta, and then placed a copy of that
    shortcut onto my QuickLaunch Bar.

I can close the Launchpad, and then when a balloon pops up to say it will be
"here," I close that and the silly thing disappears for the remainder of
this session; however, once I reboot, same old, same old. A pain in the
tookus, but all in all, I usually have to contend with it only once a day,
unless I do something that requires a restart.

  • I am running both Win7 and OSX, even on the same machines. I had crashing Launchpad on W7 X64 and left it for now, most of them backup to the old WHS system, so I concentrate on OSX for now. But yes, under Windows it is basically the same problem.

Thanks for voting. I am confident the VAIL team will listen

  • MS has changed the lauchpad behaviour with the recent VAIL public preview refresh version....

For Windows (don't know about the MAC but I would expect it to be the same): After logging in, just click away the lauchpad by clicking the upper-right 'x'. It leaves you with the good-old status-colored WHS tray icon. And without you it is in tyhe tray icon every time.

If you need lauchpad, just double-click this icon (or richt-click for other options)!?

Agree that it would be nice to have the lauchpad "auto-minimized" on startup so the user does not need tot click it away after logging in.

  • On OSX it doesn't work like that. It is Open on the screen or as an icon in the Dock. Both take too much space.

Off topic: it seems that moderators keep setting their own replies as answers? Is it about scores or why is this?

  • Hi zebrafilm,
For Windows the Lauchpad functionality imho has become much better witt VAIL refresh.
My assumtion about MAC functionality to be similar to the Windows version however appears to be incorrect. Thanks for correcting that. (FYI: I just validated your suggestion on connect because of this and would suggest anyone who thinks this is important to do the same)

Off topic: Regarding proposing my own answer. Well... In general I try to mark a post as 'helpfull' or get threads proposed and (as a result) marked as 'answered' by looking for answers as well as validating proposed answers. But only if to my best knowledge the answer is valid. Getting a thread marked is important because its makes it easier for all of us to find validated answers. You may have noticed that at the 'root' of this forum there is functionality to filter for 'helpful' or 'answered' threads?

Having succesfully installed the new VAIL refresh on my test machine just yesterday maybe made me a bit to enthousiastic on the answers. If this gave the wrong impression to you I apologize and I'll promise to be more carefull next time.

    -Theo.

PS- And yes: anyone contributing to this forum will get points for every reply, extra for answers. Personally I do not keep scores but I must admit it can make my day if some of you out there can solve a problem based on my input :-)

  • Hi Theo,

I am running VAIL refresh 2  and have a special test box and some reserved computers for it. I think I know a little what I am talking about :-)

    Off topic:

Thanks for the honest answer. Sorry f I sounded pickybut the same thing happened in another thread.

I don't see the use of marking something answered when it is not (and never will) because it is something MS has to fix.

Let me also see thank you for all the time and effort you and other mods put in the forums.

Please put in a suggestion to that effect. Why MS insists that such things need to be 'in
    your face' if beyond me.

MS has changed the lauchpad behaviour with the recent VAIL public preview refresh
    version....

For Windows (don't know about the MAC but I would expect it to be the same): After logging
in, just click away the lauchpad by clicking the upper-right 'x'. It leaves you with the
good-old status-colored WHS tray icon. And without you it is in tyhe tray icon every time.

If you need lauchpad, just double-click this icon (or richt-click for other options)!?

Agree that it would be nice to have the lauchpad "auto-minimized" on startup so the user
does not need tot click it away after logging in.
