How can I find my REAL Product Key? RRS feed

  • Question

  • the sticker on the computer doesnt work.

the sticker on the cd packaging (of dell drivers already on your computer) is different and doesnt work

and there is a key number in my system properties with an oem in it that doesnt work

how can a product be created and changed internally yet not have the information easily accessible?

what the heck is going on with microsoft that no one seems to know this simple question?

i am NOT rich, i cannot afford to get a new computer every couple years like some users can

    Thanks, Ryan

  • of course i know what this is already. are you purposely trying to make me angrier? the computer that was purchased 4 years ago still has the sticker on it. the number has a 5 letter and 15 number code on it with no dashes or breaks.

i still have all the receipts and packing list. i have the service code number that no longer works because it is no longer under warranty.

i still would think microsoft would offer SOME kind of help or assistance other than this forum. and i also can see no one with this same problem ever has been given a clear solution.

when i go to enter the product key all it will let me do is hit the first letter then it says wrong character. i said this already in my first post!

    Thanks, Ryan

  • if the sticker is not my coa then what is?

how has it run for 4 years if this is not the number? when i was on the phone with dell for days in 2007 trying to initially get this comp to work did they change it?

    Thanks, Ryan

  • All Windows Vista product keys have 25 alpha-numeric characters.  The COA label should have the 25-character product key printed on it.

If there are problems with the Licensing Store on your computer, whatever Key you enter will not work.
If there are problems with the Software Licensing Service - whatever Key you enter will not work.
WE first need to understand WHY you cannot download the MGADiag  Tool, so that we can properly diagnose you problem, and get that fixed - then you should be able us use whatever Key you already have.
