Why the reminder to upgrade? --- I already have! RRS feed

  • Question

  • What is going on with Microsoft translator. I used Google at first then I am told to upgrade to Miscrosoft/Bing/Babel Fish API or whatever it is called. So I do and every time I get this UGLY blue box at the top left telling me to do it.

Did it 2x and still getting the box. What gives?

I prefer the Google Translator... I only want Englisg and Simplified Chinese ... not 68 languages ... Urdu? Naww thanks anyway!

  • Were you using the Babel Fish widget, and are now being asked to use the Microsoft Translator one?

The decision to retire Babel Fish was taken by Yahoo! and we subsequently worked with them to provide a transition path for users. Please send any feedback related to the retirement of the site to Yahoo! directly.

The Microsoft Translator widget is fully customizable.

I'd recommend you visit the widget site here: http://www.microsofttranslator.com/widget

There's a guide for getting started with the widget, with a simple customization, and using the Collaborative Translation Feature (CTF), that allows the community to tweak your translations here: http://www.netnavi.tv/2012/05/08/community-enabled-azure-powered-translation-for-your-web-site/ -- this also shows how I matched the widget design to my site design.

Finally, if you want to override the functionality of the widget (for example to remove languages), it's relatively easy to do so in JavaScript. Let me know if you need some guidance here.
