Drag and drop remote access to WHS shared folders

Question
-
I've set up an HP MediaSmart WHS server, installed the connector on local computers, got a working domain name and everything works fine, even remotely. But when a remote PC without the connector software logs in, it ends up with the generic WHS homepage and has to use that dreadful Shared Folders page. What I really need is for remote PCs to have simple and intuitive drag and drop capability into and out of the shared folders. What to do?Friday, February 12, 2010 6:18 AM

Use Internet Explorer. The Easy File Upload (which permits drag and drop) is supported by a client side IE add-in.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)- Proposed as answer by Ken WarrenModerator Friday, February 12, 2010 12:29 PM

Sorry didn't see you wrote remote PC. Ignore my answer.
Hi,
Map the network shares to drives on your computer:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/maintain/mapdrive.mspx
That is for XP - if you tell me what OS you are using then we can find a guide for what you are using.
Then you will have folders on your server appear as drive letters on your computer.
If you are using Windows 7 then with PP3 you get the common shares (videos, photos etc) come up in your libraries.
Cheers,
Al

Thanks for those quick answers guys! I knew it had to be something simple. I have to stop overthinking.
A word of explanation: This WHS will be used for a small organization and my intent is to be able to let staff access shared files from any location and any computer. I cannot predict what OS they will have, hence all I can do is to make the process as simple as possible and to give as complete directions as I can.
Thanks again. I will try these tonight when I am travelling!Friday, February 12, 2010 2:50 PM
