Windows 7 not genuine - error code 0x8004fe22 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello there!

I'm getting pop-ups, that my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine. I'm 100% sure it is, because it was downloaded and installed from MSDNAA. I've tried some tricks to re-activate my Windows, but I can't even open slui.exe. Here's my MGADiag report:

  • Good - that's cured the SLUI COM error, at least..

We still have a 'Library not registered' error in slmgr, though -  and it's in the first real action line of the script :(

This could imply a number of things, so we may have to scratch around a bit.

First though, let's just check it's not something simple:)

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)

  • I'd be very surprised if that Product Key came from an MSDNAA account!

That said, your problem is related to registry errors...

To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

Here are some instructions to make life easier :)

    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.

    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.

    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

  • Well, I'm not able to post images yet, but I have screenshot from my MSDNAA account to prove you it's really a serial from MSDNAA :)

  • This type of problem is often associated with the use of Registry 'Cleaners' - more properly called Registry Destroyers.

Have you been using any form of Registry Cleaner/Optimiser/Tweaker tool? If so, which one, and does it have backups from which you can restore the edits it has done?

  • No, I used only Revo Uninstaller once, but it was alike 5 months ago and this problem occured for the first time like a month ago.

  • Revo is very good at what it does - and is unlikely to be responsible for this problem.

I'll see if I can come up with a directed fix for it - back later.

    I've uploaded a file - sluicomfix.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive

Please download and save it to your desktop.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...

Save it to the default location

This should create a file sluicomfix.reg

right-click on the file, and select Merge

Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.

    Close all windows, and reboot.

Run another MGADiag report, and post the results.
