crm 2011 deleting old and unused entities RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are starting to plan our migration to 2013 and I would like to cleanup old data and entities that have not been used in quite some time or never used at all. Has anyone deleted entites that have been used from CRM and if so what was the process/watch outs!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,

When you delete an entity, you pretty much drop a table on the db server. The process is simple, mark the entity in the customization area and click delete. You will get a warning IIRC.

The watch-outs would be "do we need the data?" because you will delete it, very much. This will also be true for dependencies, if another entity rely on the entity to be removed, you can get unwanted effects.

The same thing is true for fields, think a couple of times before you delete fields.
