MGADiag tool shows two different versions of Windows RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a client that has a computer that is saying that their version of Windows is not genuine. They bought the computer second hand, so it may very well be the case, but I have a question about which version it says I have to purchase a license for.

In the Control Panel - System screen it says that the version of Windows is Home Premium, but the MGADiag tool shows Windows 7 Ultimate in one place, but Windows Home Premium in another. The web site that you can go to in order to make your copy genuine states that we have to buy the Ultimate edition or we would have to reinstall Windows.

I'm keen to avoid this for obvious reasons, and keen to avoid purchasing the Ultimate edition as it doesn't contain features they require. Is there anything that you can suggest? I've pasted the log from the MGADiag tool below:

  • The installed Key is for Ultimate - the installation is however declaring itself as Home Premium in one place, and as Ultimate in another (as you correctly discovered) This implies that the installation has bee messed around with quite a bit :(.

Whatever you purchase, you will need to do a reformat and reinstall, not only because of that, but also because you have a hacker's Activation Exploit installed in an attempt to circumvent Windows Activation and Validation requirements, and there is no way of knowing that your machine isn't significantly put at risk by such software, or the things that may have been installed with it.

The installed Office 2003 is also counterfeit- being based on a Blocked Volume License Key.
