Compaq XP Home oem RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi I got a compaq presario just before Christmas and have been messing around with various things and downloads.  Anyway now I'd like to do a fresh install of windows. I have the Compaq recovery discs but don't really want to go back to all the rubbish that initially comes installed either.  Somewhere I read on here that I can use my compaq license key with a genuine copy of xp home. Can you download a clean copy / buy a windows discs without a license or do I have to try and find someone with an original disc.  Thanks Jake

  • The Windows XP OEM license that came with your Compaq computer is only valid with Compaq's recovery discs.  If you are not happy with the HP recovery discs, then you'll have to purchase a conventional "Full Version" of Windows XP (license and CD) and perform a "clean install".  Please remember that Compaq will no longer honor the warranty of your computer if you install a non-Compaq Windows XP operating system.
