I have two legacy software packages that I would like to exercise on my new Microsoft Surface Pro 3. The problem: My new operating system is Windows 8.1; the legacy software packages had operated successfully on my Acer Netbook running Windows XP.
The first legacy program is called Mathcad - it is apparently coded for 32-bit machines. It ran on the Acer without any problems under Windows XP. The second legacy program is called German Assistant - it is apparently coded for 16-bit machines,
and historically ran under DOS 2.1 or above - but it was also able to run on the Acer under Windows XP. Presently I have VMware Player (non-commercial) running Windows XP on my new Surface Pro 3. Mathcad runs fine; German Assistant not at all.
Is Hyper-v the answer to my problem? Will it do better than VMware Player?
