Little Help ( antivirus caused my computer to be labled "Not Genuine"? ) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I recently renewed my antivirus software ( Norton 360 ). After renewal, the antivirus software asked me to restart my computer, which I did. Upon logging back in to my computer, I was notified that my copy of Windows 7 wasn't genuine, so I followed the steps that brought me here. I have both my Product ID and my windows 7 product key. Upon trying to re-enter my product key, I am faced with an error ( Error code - 0x8007000D ) I am told this is a registry problem. I could probably fix the problem myself by uninstalling my antivirus or doing a system restore, but obviously I need antivirus protection. Though I am not 100% certain this is what has caused the problem, I'm pretty certain. Regardless of what's causing the problem, here are my MGA results :-

  • This is an error almost certainly caused by Norton.

Please first try recreating Licensing Store.

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the
    end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key or Activation may
    occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's
    case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report

Now, knowing how to fix the problem, I'm going to try re-installing Norton 360 ( as I uninstalled to try and fix ) and do this process with Norton installed. I'll keep you posted on if it works or not if you keep the topic open. thanks again Noel :)

  • Do yourself a favour - avoid Norton.

It's probably what got you into this state in teh first place!

You're welcome - there's still a minor error present in the report, which should be cleared by going to www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer 32-bit and validation. When it passes you'll be offered MSE and IE9 - you don't have to take them!
