Genuine copy of MS Office causing WGA validation failure RRS feed

  • Started getting warning messages saying my copy of Office 2007 is not genuine.  This isn't correct as it came pre installed with my Dell PC when purchased c. 2 yrs ago. Can you advise?

    If you are an individual consumer, you should never have been sold Volume Licensing materials such as a VL CD, and you certainly should not have received a Blocked Product Key.

    Your first course of action is to confront your seller with this information and demand either a full refund or to receive the genuine software you paid for.

    One other possibility is that at one time your computer did have a Genuine installation of Office installed, but for some reason it was replaced with the current installation which is nongenuine.  This could have happened if you took your computer to a repair shop and they reinstalled Windows and/or some or all of your programs.  You Get Genuine once again by uninstalling the current nongenuine installation of Office and using your Genuine Microsoft hologrammed Office installation CDs, along with the genuine Product Key found on your Office Edition's Certificate of Authenticity, to put back the genuine installation of Office you may have already had on the computer.

  • the issue is that this particular installation of Office DID come with my brand new Dell computer from an OEM licensed installation of Office.  I have no DVD copy of Office and haven't uninstalled/ reinstalled any components via internet download.  The machine has never been sent for repair.

    I did install a small app "Classic Menu Manager for Office" that converts the menu bar back to classic style in place of the frankly awful 2007 version, but can't see how or why this should cause validation issues with the Office product itself.

    Any further advice, given that my version of Office is OEM version i can't uninstall reinstall.

    The current installation of Office is a Volume Licensing installation, which was done with a now blocked Volume Licensing Key.

    This installation of Office did NOT come preinstalled by Dell on your Dell Inspiraon 530s computer.  Dell does not preinstall Volume Licensing software on computers purchased by individual consumers.

    There are three indicators in the report that show this is Volume Licensing rather than OEM software:

    1.  In the status line:  Office Status: 103 Blocked VLK  Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007 - 103 Blocked VLK
    The "VL" in "VLK" means volume licensing.

    2.  In the Other Data section, the Product Identifier (PID) is for Volume Licensing software:  <Pid>89388-707-1528066-65771</Pid>  The value "707" indicates volume licensing software.  If it were OEM software, this would read "OEM."  This is the same PID number shown in the About dialog box (Office button>Word Options>Resources>About).

    3.  In the Other Data section, the PID Type is for Volume Licensing software:  <PidType>14</PidType  The value "14" indicates volume licensing software.


    If your Dell computer purchase included a license and installation of an Office program, it would have been an extra-cost line item on your invoice or order sheet.  Please check your invoice or order sheet or other purchase documentation to see if you paid an additional charge for an OEM license for an Office edition from Dell.  If such a charge is on the invoice, then your Dell came with an OEM installation of Office that was subsequently replaced by this current nongenuine installation of Office.  In this case, you would want to find out from Dell how to reinstall the genuine OEM installation of Office that came with the computer, since they neglected to give you reinstallation discs.

    If no such charge is on the invoice, then your Dell may have come with a Trial edition of Office preinstalled that was subsequently replaced by this current nongenuine installation of Office.  In this case, you'll need to purchase and install a license for whatever edition of Office you want to run on the computer.
