Windows 7 Genuine Advantage Nags and Accusations RRS feed

  • Question

  • I forget why but to download some Microsoft program I had to run Genuine Advantage.
So apparently Windows 7 can't clear Genuine Advantage which is fine. Except now I am getting
regular popups suggesting I may be the victim of some fraud and to go to click  here to straighten
things out. (Which you can't straighten out) Second, in the corner of my screen now it says "This copy of Windows is not Genuine"
Which makes me look like a dishonest jerk to people sitting next to me. My copy of Windows is completely genuine. I have even already bought an advance copy of Windows 7, so I'm particularly feeling like I have the equivalent of a virus I am going to have to live with for the next three to seven months thanks to running my PC through the Genuine Advantage program.

  • Hello Blast,

In order to receive the best support, we request all users initially download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool (MGADiag.exe) at this link
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button then “Paste” the report into a reply message in this thread.

If you do not have access to the Start Button:

    1)    Login to Vista and click the option that brings up Internet Explorer.

    2)    Type: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 into the browser address bar.

    3)    A window will come up asking if you want to “Run” or “Save”, Select “Run”

    4)    When the program runs, click the “Continue” button, then click the “Copy” button.

    5)    Return to this thread http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/thread/73479b41-9456-42d0-8506-217974c831e4 .

    6)    In a reply post, paste the Diagnostic Report.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
