Re-installed 7 Home Premium (retail) - now "Not Genuine" RRS feed

    Hello

    I built a machine earlier this year and installed Windows 7 Home Premium (retail), using the 32-bit version. A hardware fault resulted in my replacing Processor, Motherboard and Hard Drive before I did a clean re-install using the 64-bit version (different set of advice from friends).

    On trying to activate, I got the message "The product key you typed has been blocked from use by microsoft."
    And in the Activate Windows wizard, "we are unable to activate your product. it is possible you are a victim of software piracy."

    So I phoned the Activation Line, and was told to phone Customer Support to ask them to re-enable the key. Customer Support is actually a call-centre in India, and I ended up phoning a number of times and was told by some reps that I had been mis-sold an MSDN copy, and by other reps I had been mis-sold a volume-user copy. In other words: they didn't know why my key had been blocked, but all told me to claim a refund from Amazon as they had sold me pirated software. None of them spoke enough English to be reasoned with, and none offered me any other option. Apart from one who suggested I phone Customer Support in Ireland, which promptly connected me to the same call centre in India...

    So where do I go from here? I'm tempted to hand this over to Amazon's lawyers and watch from a safe distance! By the way here is an extract from the Diagnostic Report (I can post the full report if required).
