Private messages to Forum users

  Bad Idea.

  If I want to know about changes in a thread I set an alert. If I don't I don't. I certainly don't want to get a mass of private post telling me about issues I'm not interested in.

  The problem is that you want to use such a function for a sensible and rare reason. I can imagine that private messages would by many be used for less sensible and certainly less rare reasons.

  I understand you, but I think sometimes direct or private messages can ber useful. I will expose my case:

  After reading the next post I think there exists a person who has already done what I am trying to do:

  The problem is that the thread is closed (don't know why), and I can't post there. So, even if the author has the alerts on, there is no way to contact him. So, I am in the case that I know that there is aperson working on the same thing as me, but I can't ask him for help and I can't answer his question even if I have a solution.

  I think that if there is no way to add direct message feature, at least all the forum posts should remain opened. In this case the thread has been closed without being really answered.
