IFD Deployment on 2 DCRM App Servers for 2 domains ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We have 2 Dynamics crm 4 Application servers app01 and app02. We have to configure IFD in our DCRM setup.
We want to have two types of URLs i.e    cmrSite1.company1.com and cmrsite2.company2.com. e

    My question is that:

Is it possible to configure IFD for 2 different domains on 2 different App Servers in a single Dynamics CRM Deployment?

My thinking is that we can configure IFD on each of DCRM Application Server for different domains so that users can access different crm organizations using

different URLs as I mentioned above. Offcourse I will have to put dns records accodingly in the dns zones of company1.com and company2.com.

  • You only have one option to set that domain name.

both servers will respond to org1.company1.com & org2.company1.com.

you can use DNS or a firewall to direct traffic to a single server if that's your goal.

  • Hi,

        Thanx for your reply Joseph.

Does it mean that if I have n numbers of DCRM4 Application Server still I only have one IFD domain to setup for IFD for my entire DCRM4 deployment ?

I think this is because there is single entry in MSCRM_Config database for IFD on a DCRM Deployment. So we can't configure IFD on application server basis. It is unique to a DCRM Deployment.

So we can't setup more than 1 domain to be used in IFD URLs. So http://org1.company1.com & http://org2.company2.com can not belong to single DCRM4 deployment ?

Joseph you said "you can use DNS or a firewall to direct traffic to a single server if that's your goal."

Can you plz explain what does it mean? Can I have above mentioned URLs to be browsed to same Application Server  ? Are you talking about URL Redirection?

  • Yes 1 domain per deployment.

    eg:

if you setup your deployment with company1.com.

    In IE:

if you goto https://org1.company2.com  you will be redirected to https://org1.company1.com

Note: If company1.com is in your trusted site zone , you will get a popup informing you that company2.com is trying to connect to a site in your trusted zone.

You can test this by making host entries in your host file.
