KB949810 continuously available in Windows Update... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I am running into a litte but annoying trouble with Windows Vista's Update Office Genuine Advantage Notification packages.

Basically, I am offered KB949810 and KB949810-ES updates in cyclic order.

The Windows Update history is pretty full of of lines showing the activity, and I even have tried to execute OGANotifier.msi directly, but it runs too fast to see anything useful.

The Office validation site says my Office 2007 SP1 is okay (as it is).

    Any clue?

  • Hello ea3lf,

Are you receiveing Validation errors with your Office?

If not, it appears that your core issue is that Windows Update is continually pushing the English then Spanish then English (and so on) versions of Update KB949810 out to you, even though you already have it installed.

Is my summary of your issue correct? If so, it would seem that you are experiencing a Windows Update issue related to the Laguage Versions of the Update package and I would suggest either visiting the Windows Update Solution Center at http://support.microsoft.com/ph/6527#tab0 or create a (no cost) Windows Update support request at http://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527

If you are,in fact, receiving Office Activation or Validation errors, please create a new forum thread, provide a detailed description of the Validation or Avtivation issue, as well as post a Diagnostic Report.

To generate and post a Diagnostic Report, please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics tool at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012. Click "Continue", click the "Copy" button, then paste the report the new thread.

  • Same problem. KB949810-IT. I think this problem is related to the language pack.

  • The same is here. Very annoying. The error appears when using Office Outlook 2007 as well (when trying to compose a new mail message).

Glad (well, not too much because of the annoy) to see I'm not alone.

Does anybody else think Microsoft has rushed too much, and something is not mature enough...? I am a legal user of Windows Vista Business and Office 2007 Enterprise (by my company's Microsoft Partner program subscription), and Microsoft is griefing me to convince them I am a legal user!

It's like a very recent incident I had with a modern game: I installed it, the first run installed the protection driver, the computer restarted, Windows Vista told me the driver version was too old, so it was uninstalled. Of course, starting the game, no driver, no problem, reinstalling the driver, another restart, another "too old" Vista notification, another "no driver, no problem, another reinstall, another reboot", and so on.

Yep, something like the problem with KB949810: in order to CONVINCE the software maker I ALREADY have the legal version, I MUST suffer a circular nightmare of rebooting and installing.

But any user with enough knowledge would fire specific P2P programs, download a copy of the game, install it, and use the crack, and GOODBYE NIGHTMARE. So, WHERE'S THE PLEASURE OF SPENDING BIG BUCKS????

No, this is not a plea for piracy. I finished visiting StarForce's website and downloading their last driver, which is of course Vista-compatible. Times when software makers told "product compatible with Windows 98 and later" are gone.

Please do try to get my point. Microsoft: piracy is going to happen, but please, if you want to fight it, do balance fighting it without shooting legit users...
