Office Pro 2007 Upgrade Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Bought and installed the upgrade in April 2008. All seemed ok until today when I lost access to Word and Excel. Was surprised when looking in "All Programs" there was no reference to either, but other components were there. Tried to re-install Office Pro 2007 from the original discs provided in the upgrade package. Entered the Product Key from the package and got the error message indicating no previous qualifying Office product was detected. Exited that and decided to try to download latest Office Service Pack. Download worked fine until the validation process indicated a problem, "possibly caused by a corrupted installation database". Seems I've got a catch 22.  Can't reload the program. Can't fix the "corrupted installation database". I was able to regain access to Word and Excel, but am concerned that a problem lurks and will reappear at an inopportune time.  Any help or direction appreciated.

  • Hello BRPG,

I don't see a definable Genuine issue here. It sounds like, as the message said, the issue was "possibly caused by a corrupted installation database".    I recommend reposting your question to one of the Office Newsgroups at http://www.microsoft.com/office/community/en-us/FlyoutOverview.mspx or go to http://support.microsoft.com for additional support options.

The only foreseeable problem is that if the support or newsgroup people recommend that you reinstall Office (to correct the corrupted installation database) you will first need an older version of Office installed, so you can upgrade it back up to Office Pro 2007.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
