Trying to figure out how to uninstall microsoft windows xp pro sp3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have recently bought a new dell pc. Yesturday, i installed the operating system disk that came with it. The disk is called Reinstallation CD Microsoft Windows XP pro sp3. I now know that that was stupid to do  because now in order to lof into any of my users, i have to activate windows. I think i understand the problem but dont know how ot fix it. It asks me to type in product key. Once i type the exact 25 digit code in. It says incorrect product key.

I think the problem is that now i have two micorsoft windows xp pro installed on my computer and i don't know how to uninstall this one: sp3. If this is the problem then please help. Thank you. In dont want to have to buy a new computer again.

You wrote, "I have recently bought a new dell pc."  Support for a new PC has to come from Dell.

This is not a Windows Genuine Advantage problem so it is off-topic to this forum.

  • Delete the partition and remove the entry via msconfig.

To delete the partition, right click the My Computer Icon and hit Manage.

Goto Partition Manager and delete the partition corresponding to the installation that you wish to delete. Then hit Start -> Run and type msconfig.exe and hit Enter. Now hit the BOOT.INI tab and select the corresponding installation that you wish to remove. All done!
