I understand your frustration with the exam content. AD DCs (Active Directory Domain Controllers) are usually something you would configure with the server and not with client OSs.
I suspect the exam is designed to test network administrators who are in charge of deploying and managing Windows 7 and their users with a network, which most likely will be AD.
I don't know if you failed the exam. If you did fail it, you can study up on that topic a bit and retake the exam. As you study for this topic, try to remember what the AD DC questions were about. Gear your studying to pass the exam questions. When you retake
it, you might get a completely different set of questions from Microsoft's 70-680 exam question pool. It sounds to me like you got an unfair number of questions from the pool that focused just on AD and not on other Windows 7 topics.
I understand the cost of classroom training is high for someone paying for it themselves.
You may want to consider free training from Microsoft, such as Microsoft Virtual Academy (http://www.microsoftvirtualacademy.com). Often times, the courses here are based on the Microsoft
training courseware.
Alternately, you can try using free study guides on the Internet, such as:

You may also want to consider purchasing a 70-680 study book from
Amazon, (a used study book from
Ebay), or a practice exam from
