Concurrent synchronization operations to the same file store RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
We are using the file provider to sync between 2 file stores, but we could have more than one client trying to sync at the same time. The documentation states that Concurrent sync operations are not supported, but I wanted to know if there's any way of running the remote provider in read only mode during the sync, so it doesn't update the metadata (we are doing a one way sync).
There's any option to do this without implementing my own provider? Or are you planning to implement this feature out of the box?

  • Hi,

Concurrent syncs involving the same file sync provider as not supported.
But you could create multiple FileSyncProvider endpoints on the same physical folder and sync in any desired fashion with other providers.

When the physical folder is acting as a source for multiple syncs, concurrent syncs should work as no changes are being applied on the source in any of the sync sessions.

When same physical folder is acting as both source and destination in concurrent sync sessions simultaneously - you would run the risk of undetected changes and similar concurrency issues. Still the syncs might work, even if there are some errors reported due to files being locked etc.

Currently, we do not have plans to allow same file sync provider instance to be part of multiple sync sessions simultaneously.

    Hope this clarifies.
