Relationship between Sync Framework and Live Mesh RRS feed

  • Question

  • What's the relationship, if any, between the Sync Framework and Live Mesh?  If there isn't one, I don't understand why there are two separate tracks for solving the file sychronization problem using the cloud.

    Hi Andy

Live Mesh uses FeedSync (http://dev.live.com/feedsync) to synchronize data between the Mesh and your devices.  While Microsoft Sync Framework is a platform that enables multiple data synchronization solutions between application, devices and services. With Microsoft Sync Framework, you can create  custom providers to synchronize any type of data (including files) with the Live Mesh.  To learn more about Microsoft Sync Framework you can visit:

  • Additionally look at it this way. If you do not have a store and want to put files directly in the Mesh, you could do so and synchronize them acorss your endpoints.

If you have have a store and data in that store, you could use Sync framework to sync that data from that existing store to your other endpoints using a custom provider (or some of the built-in providers in the sync framework) and also sync this data into the Mesh using Sync framework.

It has lots of detail on Sync and Live Mesh integration.
