  • Question

  • Purchased Live OneCare from Staples last yr., and my pc blew up and I did not get chance to install. The software is still valid as printed on Product key sticker until Dec 2010; however, when i tried to install on my son's pc, the product key only held 20 characters and will not accept my 25 character key!!! Microsoft does not have any online or telephone  support system that I can access to get help as you have to (guess what?!)ENTER YOUR PRODUCT KEY BEFORE THEY WILL EVEN ALLOW CONTACT W/ ANY SUPPORT!  Called Staples and they want to chrg me $30 to 'help' me install. How can I recoup my $60 wasted investment????

  • You cannot install/activate a new suscription any longer as OneCare is at end of life. Staples can't help.
See this post: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/onecareinstallandactivate/thread/0000c782-ed1b-4ed3-8afb-87989bb9638c and specifically, this part from that link:
I PURCHASED A WINDOWS LIVE ONECARE BOXED PRODUCT OR TOKEN (PRODUCT KEY) FROM A RETAILER A WHILE AGO, BUT HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT YET. CAN I STILL USE ONECARE?
Windows Live OneCare will no longer be available for sale after October 15, 2009. This page is intended to provide guidance and answer questions for customers as we complete this process. If you have purchased a Windows Live OneCare fully packaged product in a retail store or have purchased a Windows Live OneCare activation token (product key) but have not installed it on or before October 15, 2009, you will not be able to use Windows Live OneCare. In this case, you may be eligible for a refund

  • Thank you for the information! I was able to get an email through the website by taking many many steps and checking the button that indidcated I had a trial as you suggested in another thread. I only have to mail the copy of the product key and my information to Microsoft for a refund. I told them I guess I would hold off on buying my Mac for a little while! Thanks again!
