HDD Spindown doesnt work - storageservice.exe is always writing on disc RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey there,

i've installed WHS2011 on my HP N40L Microserver (4 HDDs, 1 System, 1 "normal", 1 RAID (2x2TB)) and want these hdds to spindown after the estimated time in energy-saving-options. but it doesnt seem to work because the "storageservice.exe" is permanently creating files on all HDDs every x Seconds. I can disable it so there is no more writing on these discs.

but then my backups wont work - so what does the service "storageservice.exe" do and how can it be detained from writing all the time on my discs?! (i think writing every x seconds data on my discs wont be good for them?!)

I have the same problem :-(

ProccessMonitor shows that storageservice.exe always accessing the HDDs, so the never spin down. Also my PowerMeter shows that the drawn current never decreases.

Is there another way to stop storageservice.exe but from writing/reading but keep backup functionality?
