CRM 2011 on-premises - How to handle with the frequnt changes in plug-in class files and project file names? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

In one of our projects, we do have around 30 plug-ins (developed in VB .NET, framework 4.5). We require frequent naming changes in plug-in class files and project file. Because of this we need to re-register the steps one by one for all 30 plug-ins when we do change the class file names. Is there any way that I can export the plug-in steps from plug-in registration tool (or any other tool), apply the naming changes in one place and re-import it back quickly without taking pain of registering their steps one by one.

    Thanks, Ankit Shah

  • Hello,

I think this is not possible, since you are changing class file naming because plugins steps are tightly coupled with class name.

Hope this helps. If you get answer of your question, please mark the response as an answer and vote as helpful !

  • There is not much you can do about. if you don't want to register  30 plugins everytime, you can either  have one assembly\project per plugin

or get back to an old 4.o approach : the command line tool. this is a 2011 version

here you go though the pain of set it up once, but them it will register the steps for you

if you use the developer tool kit

    http://dynamicday.wordpress.com/2013/10/31/using-the-new-2013-developer-toolkit-to-deploy-code-to-crm-2013-online/

it will generate some of the xml you will need for the command line registration tool

I Hope I could help. If I have answered please mark as 'Answer'. If was just helpful, please vote. Thanks and happy coding! Bruno Lucas, http://dynamicday.wordpress.com/

  • Hello Bruno,

Thank you for a quick response. The developer tool kit does not support VB .NET.

Let me review the CRM 4.0 approach.
