Conflict with "Windows Remote Desktop" RRS feed

  • Question

  • I cannot have both Windows Remote Desktop and Live Mesh active at the same time.  Windows Remote Desktop appears to corrupt the Live Mesh installation.  Running LM repair corrects the problem.  I using XP SP3.  Activating only one at a time so far seems to work.

The remote host that WRD connects to is not part of my LM circle of devices.  But, I am a member of two folders on a computer which is on the same LAN as the remote host, which I may have accessed while using WRD.

Is this a known issue?  I would like receive input before I submit a bug report.

  • Ah, okay. That is, however, strange. The Live Desktop in a web browser is simply a web page. It does use code to render the page and provide the folder functionality. It is basically javascript and apsx that handle the display and functionality. Windows Remote Desktop should have zero impact on this. And, repairing the installed Live Mesh client should also have zero impact on it as the installed client isn't running in your browser, it's an application, services, and Windows Explorer shell extension.

It may have been a fluke, but if you can reproduce it, by all means please submit a bug report as I've never heard of this before.

  • Do you mean that you are trying to run a Live Mesh remote desktop session from the local machine to a remote *and* another remote desktop session to another machine using Windows Remote Desktop native functionality?
What do you mean by corrupting Live Mesh and what repair are you doing?
There should be no issues runnign both from the same machine, but I'm not sure about doing it concurrently. I seem to recall that I have done that in the past, though. I know that I regularly use both RD in Windows and Live Mesh from the same machine at different times and do not encounter corruption.

  • No, I was using only one remote desktop, native Windows RD, with LM concurrently active 'in the background' monitoring folders.  After running WinRD I was not able to open files on my Live Destop. The result was a screen with a script error message followed by a small bit of script code.  Unfortunely I did not save this screen.  Restarting LM or rebooting PC did not correct the problem.  Using 'repair' under 'add or remove programs' corrected the problem.

As you, I have no problem using either at different times, which is the mode of operation I am currently using.

  • I'm a bit confused - it is Monday, after all <g>....

I now understand that you were running Windows remote desktop. Do you mean that you had the Live Desktop open in a browser window while connected via RD? And, that after a while (perhaps while still connected in a RD session or perhaps after disconnecting) that you were unable to access the Live Desktop to download files?

  • You sort of got it right.  I was able to access the Live Desktop and look at the file list in folders.  The error would occur when I tried to open/download a file in the list using the Live Desktop.

I probably did have Live Desktop open in a browser while using WinRD and may have even tried to open/download a file.  I can't recall exactly.
