Bump up Windows 7 with key from retail box... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi.

I have a retail box of Windows 7 Ultimate purchased from Office Depot that I originally used to upgrade my now dead former laptop. I also have a new laptop to replace the dead laptop. The new laptop has Win 7 Home Premium on it. I was wondering if it's allowed (or even legal) to "Bump up" to Ultimate on the new laptop using the ultimate key from the retail box. Would Anytime Upgrade allow that key or would I have to reinstall? The old computer is dead (Harddrive failure, won't respond outside of computer, computer won't take another drive)

    Thanks!

  • Yes, you can use the Windows 7 Ultimate upgrade license again.  However, you may have to "activate by phone".
