product key error message RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a netbook with windows vista basic. When I try to open Microsoft Word 2007 I'm prompted to enter a product key. I enter the product key that is on the bottom of my laptop and it doesn't work. An error message pops up saying its an invalid product key. I need to use Microsoft Word for school so any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hello Braielle,

The Product Key on the bottom of the computer is for Windows Vista Basic only, and as you noted, will not activate Office or any Office applications such as Microsoft Word.

It's likely your computer came with a Trial installation of Office 2007; if so, please have a look at this Office Help article, it tells you how to activate your Trial if you have not already done so, and if you have reached the end of the Trial, it tells you how to purchase a license to convert your Trial to a perpetually licensed Office installation:  http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/help/HA101936151033.aspx

If that does not fully answer your question, please let us know how we can assist you more. :-)
