WHS not on network RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have just installed WHS on a Dell E521 desktop system and everything appears to be working with one exception. I cannot pull a DHCP address from my network and if I set up a static address it say I have a good network connection but I am unable to see the system on the network and it fails to even be able to ping other addresses on the same subnet. If I disconnect the hdd with WHS on it and re-connect my original hdd with XP on it, the system works fine for all network/internet access so I know the network/NIC/cable are good. Network related hardware as follows:

NIC - Broadcomm 44X embedded ethernet controller
    Switch - Cisco Catalyst 2950-24
    Router - AdTran 3430

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi,
are you sure, that drivers are installed for the network adapter? (Check in device manager locally on the server.) Other reasons could be, that the drivers are not compatible with Windows Server 2003, that you have additional network adapters seen by WHS with preference or additional network protocols installed.
Since a typo also cannot be excluded, please post the output of
    ipconfig /all
entered in a command prompt on the server and for validation on one client.
Can you ping the server from its own desktop by name and ip address?
    Best greetings from Germany
