Question
-
1. Operating System is Windows XP professional – attempting to install Office Professional 2007.
2. I purchased physical copy of Office Professional 2007 from Office Depot at the same time as I purchased my computer. There was a huge red and black paper sticker over the COA – looks computer generated with all kinds of codes. Because of the kind of paper used on the sticker, I had to shred it to even get into the box with the CDs. However, I tore off the COA and can hold it up to the light and read some stuff, however there is nothing that says OEM anything.
3. I purchased Office as a standalone – no computer information.
4.
5. When I enter the product key – from the inside of the software container – yellow label – I receive an error message that says, “The key is incorrect. Verify that you have the correct key, and retype it." I have retyped 6 times.
Following is my Diagnostics:

Hello BBK Ventures,
From your diagnostic report it appears you have not installed the genuine advantage validation, please visit http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ and click on Validate Windows. This will install the necessary files to be able to validate your copy of Windows, I would like to have you run this to make sure we will not run into any additional issues with your system down the line.
That is a very interesting issue you are having with Office and we don’t have a good answer for this one without additional information. We would really like to get a better understanding of this issue so we can better assist not only you but other users with similar problems as well. Could you please submit a service request with Microsoft Product Support using the following link: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=52029. Please include your product key for Office, your name, e-mail address and phone number so we may analyze specifics surrounding the problems you are encountering. Also please run the diagnostic test again for inclusion with the support incident. This will enable us to review current information after the changes you made. Once you have done that, please reply back to this post and provide the SR # generated by the service request. Please let us know if you would be willing to do this!!
Thank You,

Hello Brooke,
I appreciate you submitting this information for us to review; we have determined that your product key is genuine. However after reanalyzing your diagnostic information we have determined that you have a trial version of Office currently installed on your system as we can see here: Office Status: 104 Unknown PID. In cases like this we recommend all users uninstall any trial versions of Office before attempting to install the full version. Please use the Add or Remove Programs found in the control panel to uninstall any Office programs you may currently have installed and attempt to reinstall your store bought copy of Office.
If you still are having issues after this please follow the recommendations found in this KB article to make sure all remnants of Office are fully removed from your system: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928218/en-us .
Important: This article contains information about how to modify the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you modify it. Make sure that you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: “How to back up and restore the registry in Windows XP and Windows Vista” http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/. If you need to perform these steps then please restart your computer after all the steps have been followed and attempt to install your store bought copy again, if you are still having issues again please re-run the MGA diagnostic tool and post the results back in this thread so we may further analyze the situation.
Thank you,

Hello Group,
I had a similar issue, I was able to resolve it by only performing the validation http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ for Windows, not for Windows, then Office.
I actually, did a Validate of Windows, then office had the same issue, then Only validated Windows. I was cut and pasting the same license key.
Thanks to Matt, Brooke for this posting all the best, Phil Diakun
