Downgrade from Vista Home Premium to XP Home

Question
-
Hello Microsoft, I purchased a Lenovo 3000 100 Notebook with Vista HP installed (No CD). I want to downgrade to XP Home. Lenovo tells me no CD is available because I have Vista HP instead of Business or Ultimate and would have to purchase a full retail version of XP. Why am I being excluded from receiving an available Window XP CD ???
If there is no recourse, are you (Microsoft) offering a reduced price for the XP software ?

The information you received from Lenovo is correct. If you wish to acquire Windows XP at a good price, visit Newegg.com for pricing on an OEM version.Tuesday, December 4, 2007 4:11 PMModerator

Thank you for your reply. Just wondering, do people from Microsoft ever answer questions here ?Tuesday, December 4, 2007 5:04 PM

Hi rickwoz,
Yes, Microsoft people do answer these forums. In fact, according to the forum metrics, i'm in the #1 position with 115 answers in the last 30 days (in the Vista Forums).
I read every post on the Vista forums, but if Carey answers the post correctly, I usually see no need to post myself. (a correct answer is a correct answer, regardless who gives it)
Thank you,

I have a similar issue: I bought a Lenovo 3000 N100 notebook with Vista Home Premium installed. I want to downgrade to XP Professional. I have a licenced copy of XP Professional. Can I achieve a clean, successful downgrade to XP Pro since I have the original CD? Are there any issues regarding drivers, or other known problems? What resources are available to ensure a clean, successful transition? Thanks.

Hi, If you haven't found the answer yet, I finally succeeded.
Windows XP Upgrade did not work no matter what I tried.
I purchased a Full Version of Windows XP Home with SP2. OEM
It worked just fine. Hope this helps. Rick

Hi!
Where did you get the xp disc? I have 2 laptops, one 2yo (with xp) and one I just bought (with vista home premium). I was just wondering if I can use the disc that came with the older one to install the xp to the newer one or is it gonna affect on the older computer?

Hello,
I purchased it on Ebay.
Example : Ebay Item number: 220185693662
The XP disc you have from your older laptop can only be used for 1 activation, meaning you would have to choose which laptop you want it on. That will not solve your problem, so I suggest just buy a XP version like I did and install on your new laptop. In this case you should reformat before installation. I went through hours of trying not to have to buy new software.
Hope this helps.
Merry Christmas !
