(clackey): Wga Notify-Access Denied Issue RRS feed

  • Question

  • Well, I have exactly the same issue on a 13 month old Dell Inspiron.  There is nothing in the Event Logs.  I have responded to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910338/ as a close hit, but no help.  For now I have flagged it as "Don't show this update again" but now Windows Live OneCare is harrasing me about it... not to mention the scary message Windows Update puts in my face.

  • Hello Clackey,

We believe we have identified the problem. The installation is repeatedly failing when the file WgaLogon.dll tries to install. Our Devs suggest the following steps:
    1) Navigate to the Windows/system32 folder
    2) Find the file "WgaLogon.dll"
    3) Rename that file to WgaLogon.dll.old
    4) Reboot and run the Stand-alone WGA Notifications installer  (downloaded from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=69498)

If this does not resolve your issue, please download and run the Genuine Diagnostics toolat this link http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 , then click the Windows tab, Copy, then Paste the report into a response message in this thread. Also provide a detailed description of your specific issue.

Also go to your "Windows" folder and find the "WgaNotify.log" file. Open it in NotePad, copy all the text and paste log text in this thread.

    Thank you,

    Darin Smith
