Best configuration for my hyper-v RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

We just purchased an HP hardware DL380 Gen9 server and here are the specs:

    Server Specs:
    1 processor 8 cores
    32Gig Memory
    2 x 300GB HDD; 1 x 1TB HDD
    Windows 2012 R2 Standard

    This is what I need:
hyper-v with 2 guests Windows OS.

    300GB HDD

    600GB HDD
    MS SQL Database

    1. How much should I allocate for the hosts operating system?
    2. Do I need to turn the two 300GB into raid and put the hosts operating system there or I can just put the hosts on one of the 300GB? If the two 300Gb are raid, what raid level would it be?
    3. Should i place the VMs and the snapshots and config files on a separate harddisk or a separate partition will do?
    4. If I place the VMs on the 1TB, that means the 1TB is not raided. Will this be okay?
