SyncToy 2.0 - Likely release date/range?

Question
-
I've just stumbled across the info surrounding SyncToy 2.0 Beta.. And am really keen to test out the product, it looks like just what I've been searching for..
I'm just wondering when the v2.0 release is scheduled, because while I'm keen to play around with the beta release, I wasn't intending on deploying this on non-test boxes..
Is there a blog or somewhere that I can find some more info about the current development of this release?
Many thanks,

The final version of SyncToy 2.0 was released last week and more details, including the download location can be found here: http://forums.microsoft.com/sync/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=3753059&SiteID=75

I too would like to know the current status of development, and I have a couple of requests:
1. Add Integrated scheduling.
2. Monitor source folders and when they change, sync to the destination folder. (robocopy does this with /MON)
3. This is a big one. Add the ability to retain/sync source folder modified and created dates/times. So far, I have not found any application that does this, not even robocopy
Thanks,

Hi Paul,
Your questions are very common from users of SyncToy.
SyncToy v2.0 Beta was given the name Beta simply because the core of the product is run by the Microsoft Sync Framework which is currently in CTP. Due to this fact, we had to call SyncToy a beta simply because the Sync Framework had not been released yet. Believe me, Synctoy 2.0 Beta went through as much testing as any other release and the fact that 100's of thousands of users have downloaded it since Nov '07 and have been using it for some time now, tells me that it is a very solid release. As such, I would welcome you to give SyncToy 2.0 Beta a try.
As for the official release date, we do not have an official date announced yet, but as you can imagine it will coincide with the release date of the Microsoft Sync Framework.
As to your other question, we will annouce the date on this forum and at our sync blog once it has been set.
Thanks,
Liam

Hi Matthew,
Thank-you for the feedback.
Your suggestion about integrated scheduling is without a doubt the most common request that we get and is certainly at the top of our list.
I do really like the idea of monitoring source folders for changes although we will have to think about that a little bit more since there may be some additional complexities involved in doing this, for example, most of the time if you are editing a file there is a good chance the file will also be locked and perhaps you don't want to send the file until it has changed and has become unlocked.
I will also make a note of your third point in our enhancement notes as well.
As always, thanks for the feedback (please keep it coming).

Quick question about 2.0's installation requirement that Sql Server CE 3.1 will also be installed: I'm looking to install this on multiple user laptops that already have Sql Server 2000 installed. Can 2.0 be configured to use the already installed Sql Server?

Unfortunately no, SyncToy is reliant on SQL Server Compact (SQL Server CE 3.1) and will not work with SQL Server.Wednesday, February 13, 2008 3:11 AM

Liam-
You have GOT to be kidding. You say it went through "as much testing as any other release", yet it can't handle DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!!! Now I worry about the testing practices at MSoft. I mean really... It's a sync package. You don't think DST when you think Time/Date comparisons?
Can you push them to release this change sooner than later? It's rather painful to resync multi Gigs worth of pictures just because March 9th has passed...

I found this blog post, stating that MS Sync Framework is schedualed for Q3 2008. If I understood correctly, this estimate is valid for the next release of synctoy as well?
Looking forward to the next release!

Why don't you go buy a program, or perhaps write one yourself.... Then you can post it, and watch other people react to your efforts.
