Changing the product key associated with an account. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I live in Mexico and was unable to renew my subscription via a credit card.  So I went to the local Office Max store and purchased a new copy of OneCare for only $20 more.  I uninstalled the OneCare on my computer and installed the new copy.  After I restarted, my OneCare came up and said that I still needed to renew.  I looked at the details of my accout and the old product key is still there.  I need help changing the product key to te new copy.  Please help I am really close to go back to the store and buy Norton.  And I relly don`t want to do that.

    THANKS

  • By reinstalling and using the same LiveID, you inherited the subscription status of that LiveID. There is no need to reisntall, you can renew with a retail key. Go to http://billing.microsoft.com and sign in with your subscription LiveID. (Open OneCare and click help/about to view the subscription LiveID)

Select the OneCare subscription and click on the renew link.

Choose the option to renew with a prepaid PIN or token which is the retail product key.

Enter the 25 character key and proceed.

It can take up to 24 hours for the subscription status to be updated in OneCare.
