CRM 2011 Public IP RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We have configured our on-premises CRM 2011 for access of the internet by public IP, it is set up to only allow access via SSL. It works fine and as accessible.

    My questions are..

What are the risks/disadvantages of our set up over an IFD setup?

and, What are the benefits of IFD over our set up?

as I cannot understand the difference.

    Thanks

    Darren

  • Hi,

The biggest issue of not using the IFD is accessing CRM from Outlook, if you will not setup IFD then you have to use the VPN connectivity or clients like citrix etc..  The second point I would make is that Windows Authentication can present issues to people accessing CRM from a non-domain computer when outside the domain - i.e. their home computer.

For IFD deployment using SSL is a must requirement but with windows authentication you can even publish CRM website with using SSL (not recommended to expose CRM website on intranet without SSL).

I would suggest you to also refer this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2642152/exposed-onsite-vs-ifd-deployments-for-ms-dynamics-crm
