Problem with importing from FT.COM RRS feed

  • Question

  • With the help of this newsgroup I've been succesfully updating my stock prices on MS Money for a couple of weeks now. Suddenly, today, when I pressed the 'import to MS Money' button I got this message

'This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel'

Somehow I've lost the file association for importing to MSMoney. Could someone enlighten me with the name of the import program and the file type so that I can try and associate them again.

    Thanks,

    Bob

  • I am guessing you are using *.ofx files.  The description below applies to Microsoft Money Plus, so adjust for your version.

Setting the file association for OFX files with Microsoft Money Plus

    Start->Settings->ControlPanel->DefaultPrograms->AssociateAFileType...

Select OFX-- Open Financial Exchange File .

The CurrentDefault column should be "Money Import Handler".  If it
is not, click ChangeProgram.  If "Money Import Handler" is a
choice, choose that.  If not, Browse (or OpenWith if Browse is not
a choice).  In the case of Money Plus, typically that is at
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles\mnyimprt.exe".

Since MNYCoreFiles is normally a hidden files, you will probably
not see that as a choice. Paste the following line
    "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Money Plus\MNYCoreFiles"
without the quotes into the small box at the top of the OpenWith
window. Select mnyimprt.exe, and click Open.

The alternative way to fix this may be to reinstall Money.
