CRM 4.0 restoring data from backup RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello all,

We have CRM 4.0 PROD and DEV servers. PROD database will be backed up every day. one user accidentally deleted an account and its related records from PROD server today. But there were other transactions happened in PROD server so I couldn't restore the backup directly into PROD. We are thinking of restoring the backup file into DEV server. Is it possible to restore only a particular entity records from the Backup. kindly help me here....thanks.

  • There's no simple way to restore just particular entity records from a backup. Although SQL allows restoring individual tables, any CRM record is stored in a minimum of 2 tables (and if you're talking about an account and its related records, then this is many more tables), so this is not a viable solution.

I suggest you restore the database to a new name on your DEV server, and import it as a different organisation. Then you can view the original data in CRM. Unless you have a very large amount of deleted data, then the quickest way to get that data back into the PROD environment will probably be to manually recreate it

  • Hello David,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I have few other questions as well.

Is it possible to restore only the CRM Data without restoring the customizations  (as you know that in CRM 4.0 customizations will be stored in the database). if it is possible can you share the details of that process. Thanks.

  • There is no realistic way of separating the customisations from the data when you restore data. The most significant obstacle is that some customisations (e.g. custom fields and relationships) are implemented by modifying the database structure as well as in records in the metadata tables
