Installation crashes after removing DVD to install drivers RRS feed

  • Found this installation issue, easily bypassed but still annoying.

Installing WHS on a disk connected to a PCI-based controller. Naturally, it asked me for drivers. I responded yes and replaced the DVD in the drive from the WHS install DVD to the driver CD. After installing the driver, I forgot to replace the disks again so I ran into the following issue (to recap, no WHS DVD in drive at this point):

The select type of installation screen worked normally, however the regional settings one had both lists empty. When attempting to select next, the installation hung for a few seconds then showed the default background (seen during Setup is initialising) and then the computer restarted.

The solution is obvious and works - be careful to replace the WHS DVD after installing additional drivers, however there really should be a DVD check after the additional driver phase before proceeding with the install.

  • I have been asking me for a long time why they ask us to copy the additional drivers onto an usb stick or a diskette. Now I know why....
