WHS Backup Database Backup to fire and water proof USB drive RRS feed

  • Question

  • So there is a LONG string about how to do a backup database backup including a nice add-in that works well, BUT, the goal here is to automate this process so that it can run at some gawd awful hour that no one is going to be using the server. I want to have a recovery method if there is a fire or flood and since the IoSafe can survive, why not backup the image there. Our insurance guy is considering giving us a discount on our biz continuity insurance since I can also chain the IoSafe down and make it dang hard to steal.

So how about it...I know I can use synctoy, but this make WHS a nice small biz solution and the IoSafe means the drive can stay mounted all the time.

  • What you want to do isn't supported in Windows Home Server. You could, however, create a scheduled task that runs something like the commands provided in the Home Computer Backup and Restore technical brief. You'll probably want additional processing to clean the old backup database off the disk, etc.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
