Upgrading Office 2003 VLK to Office 2007 Retail RRS feed

  • Question

  • I apologize if I am asking this in the wrong place, but I'm not sure where else to ask.  This is more to make sure we are legal as the upgrade and activation worked fine.

    Situation:

User's workstation and laptop both had Office 2003 Professional installed with our company's valid VLK. This one user required some functionality found in Excel 2007, so we purchased a retail upgrade Office 2007 Standard.

    Questions:

    1.  Is it legal to upgrade VLK licensed products with retail upgrades?

    2.  If #1 is legal.  Is it legal to upgrade both the user's workstation and portable device with the same retail upgrade?

Info I have found from Microsoft's website:

    Valid products for upgrade:
Microsoft Works 6.0-10; Microsoft Works suite 2000-2006 or later; any 2000-2007 Microsoft Office program or suite; any Microsoft Office XP suite except Office XP Student and Teacher.

And this is taken from the Retail License found on the Office 2007 Standard disc:

    1.         OVERVIEW.  These license terms permit installation and use of one copy of the software on one device, along with other rights, all as described below.

    2.         INSTALLATION AND USE RIGHTS.  Before you use the software under a license, you must assign that license to one device.  That device is the “licensed device.”  A hardware partition or blade is considered to be a separate device.

    a.         Licensed Device.  You may install and use one copy of the software on the licensed device.

    b.         Portable Device.  You may install another copy on a portable device for use by the single primary user of the licensed device.

    Thanks
