  • The MCITP: Business Intelligence Developer certification requires one "MCTS" and one "PRO" exam. Both of these are required for the Certification. While the 70-431 is the MCTS prerequisite for both the MCITP: Database Administrator and MCITP: Database Developer (Both of which require an additional 2 “PRO” exams to complete) it does not satisfy the requirement for the MCITP: BI Developer

  • I took both 446 and 431 the same day because both are not related it just means you do both ends of the relational model. But as the other user have said yes you still need 445 because I had passed 445 before I took 446 and 431 on the same day.

445 is a very good clean exam again not related to 431 because 445 and 446 are more related to Reports development, design, deployment and management, Integrated services development, design, deployment and management and Prediction modeling and Dimension modeling development, design, deployment, granular security, management and planning. I did not like 446 but 445 was very good, it helps if you love math so you can understand both Prediction modeling and Dimension Modeling.

  • I like Trancender/Self-Test Software (they are the same company now). As well I found the MS-Press book for 70-431 a very helpful resource. I teach two SQL Classes that map to the objectives of this exam (2779/2780) but if I'm going to be honest they don't quite fill in all the knowledge gaps. As Caddre said with a good foundational knowledge of SQL Server 2005 you can pass the exam. Good luck.

The MS-Press book for this exam can be found here.

  • Caddre/.Rev,

I would like to know what test prep material you used to prepare for the 70-431 (especially the hands-on simulated material). I scored an excellent on the non-performance based but about 50% on the performance based items. I don't understand how a 12 question portion would weigh so heavily on the final outcome even though I scored a perfect 100% on the non-performance based items? I'm appalled at the scheme used to grade this exam.

  •  I ran a search on Google and read many blog posts from people who have passed the test and areas I need to know like Backup topics because there are some changes in 2005. I scored perfect in the none performance and lost half of one performance questions.

I think the exam was fair the performance simulations could be better but the questions were fair almost simple if you know SQL Server 2005. I have passed three SQL Server 2005 exams I only think 446 was not a good exam very convoluted and poor structure. I am very impressed with 431 and 445. If you did not pass the exam you could try Transcenders practice exam or read many blog posts and reference that with your exam experience then spend time with SMS. That includes running search in BOL for visual task steps using SMS.  I hope you used the free second chance insurance if not make sure you retake before June so you can use it.
